Do What Jesus Says

Do you obey Jesus? This question is the litmus test for whether or not you are following Him as Lord. He framed the question this way:

“Why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46)

For many of us who claim to follow Jesus, obeying Him happens to be no more than a casual, occasional choice. We obey Christ (sometimes) when a verse of Scripture catches our attention in an unusual way, or when a preacher delivers an especially effective sermon.

But this is not the obedience that Jesus demands. He demands regular obedience, in small and large ways. He demands a lifestyle of responding to His desires and commands on a daily basis, not occasional, major crisis decisions alone (those these will likely occur).

So, today it is possible you’ve prayed at some point and called Jesus your Lord – perhaps at breakfast, in your morning quiet time or quietly during your commute to work or school. But let me ask, if you called Him your Lord, exactly how are you obeying Him today? Are you?
