The Solution to Anxiety is Prayer

Do you ever worry about anything? Do you become anxious, concerned, nervous or uneasy about details, decisions and circumstances in your life? Assuming that you do, let me ask – what causes you to worry?

In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus listed some common reasons for anxiety.

  • Your physical appearance (Matthew 6:27)
  • Your wardrobe (Matthew 6:28)
  • Your groceries and diet (Matthew 6:31)
  • Your future plans (Matthew 6:34)

Do you worry about any of these things? I do. But is it ever okay to worry? No. It is never appropriate.

Jesus says plainly, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life…” (Matthew 6:25). And Paul repeats this worry-free approach mindset when he says, “Be anxious for nothing…” (Philippians 4:6). So Jesus says, “Don’t ever worry.” And Paul says, “Don’t worry about anything.”

So what should I do instead? The things that make me nervous and uneasy aren’t going away. How should I replace my worry?

Paul teaches a simple solution – pray (Philippians 4:6).

  • Worry? Never.
  • Pray? Always. About everything that you worry about.

And how should you pray? Jesus tells us to pray about the kingdom of God and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33).

  • Acknowledge that God is ruling over your life, and the details in it.
  • Ask Him to accomplish His complete, eternal purpose through the circumstances you are facing.
  • Ask Him for wisdom to know how to make decisions that harmonize with his will.
  • Thank and praise Him in advance that He will work all things together for the ultimate good.

As you learn to pray for God to accomplish His eternal purposes through the details of life that cause you to worry, you will discover an inner peace that overcomes your anxiety. God will calm the anxious waves that flood your soul.
