Some Family Road Trip Fun
When you take long road trips with family, especially a van full of young children, how do you fill the time? Here are some ways that we use our van time together. Some of these activities are great ways to get to know your children better, while others stretch their thinking, build camaraderie, foster creativity or teach appreciation for wholesome humor.
- Enjoy some hilarious "Would You Rather" scenarios together. Thanks to The Measured Mom for compiling 100 questions for kids here!
- Get the children thinking with some funny, but clever Silly Sally riddles, and other word came.
- Squeeze in some rounds of 20 questions.
- Hold a sing-a-long, singing spiritual songs some times, and children's songs or funny songs at other times.
- Listen to audio books, radio dramas, Patch the Pirate adventures, Scripture songs and classic orhcestral music (like Peter and the Wolf and Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra)
- Give children printable maps so that they can keep track of distance for themselves (to avoid the notorious "are we there yet" question)
- Initiate a scavenger hunt
- Check out lots of classic travel games and free printables here and here (like battleship, checkers, hangman and the license plate game)
So how do you spend your time? Do you have any suggestions to share?
